Celtic: Fans slam Moritz Bauer’s performance after coming on at half-time against St Johnstone

Celtic defender Moritz Bauer came in for withering criticism from a number of the club’s supporters after his 45-minute display on Wednesday night.

The Austria international was brought on at half-time in the 3-0 win at St Johnstone in place of Jozo Simunovic, who had been an injury doubt prior to kick-off, and with the Hoops already three goals to the good at that point, they allowed the home side a few good openings in the second half after the 28-year-old was introduced. Bauer came off the bench to make his ninth Premiership appearance of the season and has now featured in each of the Hoops’ last three league matches, but some reporters were decidedly unimpressed with what he produced against St Johnstone. Hamish Carton of 67hailhail.com felt that “you barely realised he was even playing” while Amy Canavan of Read Celtic said that he was “caught out a few times with the Saints’ pace”.

Having come under fire from some Celtic fans for performances earlier in the season, he was again the target of criticism from these Hoops supporters on Twitter after his showing at McDiarmid Park, with one comparing him to ex-Parkhead flop Jeremy Toljan:
