A number of Celtic fans have reacted to a tweet from Sunday Mirror journalist Brian McNally (@McNallyMirror) in which he alluded to the involvement of Jonny Hayes in one of their team’s goals in Sunday’s 4-1 win at Hamilton.
McNally pointed out that, with the teams level at 1-1 in the 78th minute, the 32-year-old hurriedly vaulted a pitch-side advertising board to grab the ball and take a quick throw-in, with the passage of play ending in Christopher Jullien firing the Hoops into the lead at a crucial juncture in the game.

Hayes, who came on as a substitute for Greg Taylor six minutes earlier, was also praised by other reporters for his impact at New Douglas Park. David Walton of 67hailhail.com said that he “looked full of energy and performed reliably”, while Read Celtic‘s Amy Canavan wrote that he had a “massive impact from the bench yet again” and “got it all started for Jullien’s goal with some quick thinking”.
The Republic of Ireland international had come under fire from a portion of Celtic fans in recent weeks, with some questioning his inclusion ahead of Taylor against Hearts in December and others slamming his performance against Kilmarnock a couple of weeks ago. However, after seeing McNally’s tweet about Hayes’ attitude in the lead-up to Jullien’s goal on Sunday, these Hoops supporters took to Twitter to commend the 32-year-old, with one appreciating how he “gives so much energy and passion“:
