A report from The Scottish Sun has revealed some details on Dermot Desmond’s huge decision to lend his backing to current Celtic manager Neil Lennon, following the New Year review of the 49-year-old’s position at Parkhead.
The New Year review took place after the Hoops suffered a 1-0 loss in their latest Premiership fixture versus their Old Firm rivals at the weekend, and this update provides some behind the scenes details – claiming the reasoning behind Desmond’s support for Lennon is that despite the result, leading figures at the club were happy with the performance.

Despite losing the latest Old Firm clash to the league leaders, one could argue that Celtic put in a praiseworthy display, as they prevented Rangers from hitting the target with a single shot, with the only goal coming from Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor after the Hoops were reduced to ten men.
Per The Scottish Sun, Desmond certainly believes that the performance at the weekend was good enough to save Lennon’s position, as it’s been claimed that the largest Celtic shareholder was convinced that Lennon is ‘sufficiently reviving the team,’ meaning that his job is safe, despite the club trailing Rangers by 19 points with three games in hand in the league at present and some Hoops supporters protesting against the manager just over a month ago.

With his side’s performance at Ibrox seemingly playing a big role in saving his job, according to this report, despite failing to get a result from that game, it will be interesting to see if Lennon and his side repay that faith by going on to close the gap between them and Rangers to somehow get themselves back on track in their hunt for 10-in-a-row.
