Celtic are ‘close’ to an agreement over signing Suwon Bluewings striker Oh Hyeon-Gyu, according to reliable reports.
The Lowdown: Postecoglou takes to January…
The Hoops and current SPFL champions are nine points clear at the top of the table and look in cruise control to once again usurp arch rivals Rangers to the coveted Scottish top flight crown.
Celtic’s home form in particular has been simply sensational, having won 11 out of 11 matches at Parkhead – scoring 34 goals in the process whilst conceding just seven times.
However, despite their fine form again over 2022/2023, manager Ange Postecoglou has reportedly taken to the January transfer market in a bid to strengthen his options.
According to the agent of South Korean striker Cho Gue-sung, Celtic have been the most ‘active’ over potentially signing him recently with a video call held (Daily Record).
However, in a recent turn of events, it appears they have now set their sights on a different target.
The Latest: Celtic ‘close’ to Hyeon-Gyu Oh deal…
According to Sky Sports reporters Anthony Joseph and Lyall Thomas, Celtic are closing in on a deal for Suwon Bluewings striker Hyeon-Gyu Oh, with Joseph stating on Twitter:
“Celtic are close to an agreement with K-League side Suwon Bluewings to sign striker Hyeon-Gyu Oh. It’s understood the player is keen on the move and there’s a confidence the deal can be done, with plans already in place for a medical.
“Celtic are moving quickly onto their next target after talks for Gue-sung Cho stalled, due to the player weighing-up his options.”
The Verdict: Great news…
The South Korea Under-23 international looks like a very promising talent when looking at his performances in Asia for the Bluewings.
In 2022, he bagged 14 goals and two assists across all competitions at just 21-years-old – potentially backing why Postecoglou wants to get this over the line.
Oh is also a big game player, having netted in the Bluewings’ K-League 1 promotion play-off back in October.
The young forward’s versatility is another major incentive to move with the £482,000-valued ace able to play on both the right and left wing as well as a central striker.
As Postecoglou takes to the K-League again for reinforcements, Oh looks like an exciting potential addition.
