Celtic: Hoops-linked Jesse Marsch set for Leipzig gig

Celtic’s hunt for a new manager has seen plenty of names linked with the Parkhead vacancy, but it seems as if one of those is now closing in on a new club.

According to reliable reporter Fabrizio Romano, ‘Jesse Marsch is set to become the new RB Leipzig manager’ – 11 words that could be of interest to the Hoops and new CEO Dominic McKay, after The Scottish Sun revealed the Bhoys’ interest in Marsch.

Marsch, who recently admitted it is an ‘honour’ to be linked with Celtic, looks set to take over at Leipzig after Julian Nagelsmann left for Bayern Munich.

Reports last month suggested that Celtic chiefs were admirers of Marsch, but it doesn’t look as if he’ll become Neil Lennon’s long-term successor following this major update from Romano.

McKay and the rest of the Celtic board may have still been monitoring Marsch’s situation, but it appears as if they will have to cross his name off a the shortlist for good.

To us, the Hoops now really need to get a move on in their managerial and director of football search.

The end of the season isn’t far away and it seems as if the Hoops may need a major rebuild in terms of recruitment to challenge rivals Rangers next season. If the early movement in Germany is anything to go by, the game’s top managers won’t be sat around waiting for long once teams start calling.

A new DoF through the door over the coming weeks could help Celtic with the process, and a fresh face in the dugout would hopefully follow soon after, but it doesn’t look as if Marsch will be their man.
