Celtic: Jimmy McGrory’s name on fans lips following question on Twitter

Celtic fan page Celtic1967.com asked fans what former or present player they would give a statue to if they could and club legend Jimmy McGrory was the one that a lot of fans picked.

It is very easy to see why this was such a popular suggestion, McGrory managed to win a lot of silverware at the club which included three league titles, five Scottish Cups, three Glasgow Cups and three Glasgow Charity Cups, via thecelticwiki. What is more impressive however is his goal tally at the club and the amount of time he spent at the Hoops. He played for the side from 1921-1937, and featured 445 times whilst scoring a staggering 472 goals.

It is amazing to see that he managed to score more times than he played and it is an incredible record which also means he is the most prolific scorer in the club’s history.

He then came back as a manager for 20 years, per thecelticwiki, picking up six trophies, but is was a hard time to be in charge of the club as he led them from 1945-65 so was dealing with the aftermath of the war.

The man dedicated so many years to Celtic and is a true servant of the club, so there is no doubt that he would be worthy of a statue if there was an opportunity for one.
