Celtic man seeking key January talks with Rodgers – report

Celtic supporters have been making a lot of noise in the Transfer Tavern so far this season after seeing their side continue their domination of Scottish football by breaking their own 100-year record of 62 matches unbeaten with a 4-0 success at St Johnstone last time out.

Brendan Rodgers’ men swept aside all that came before them last season to win the Premiership, Scottish Cup, and Scottish League crowns, and they have made a fine start in trying to defend those titles by opening up a three-point lead in the league, and reaching the final of the latter. And the Bhoys made history in their last outing as a 4-0 win at St Johnstone made it 63 games unbeaten at domestic level, thus breaking the record set by themselves under Willie Maley between 1915 and 1917.

Thus, there have been many delighted Celtic fans in the Tavern in recent times, many of whom are likely to be intrigued by a recent report from Aftenposten, which details some interesting comments from defender Kristoffer Ajer regarding his future at Parkhead.

The 19-year-old made the move to the Scottish giants back in 2016 after a two-year stint at Start, and he has since gone on to make just seven first team appearances for the Bhoys, six of which have come this season.

And after a decent loan spell at Kilmarnock in the second half of last season, in which he appeared 17 times, Ajer has opened up about his immediate future at Celtic, hinting at possibly sealing another loan move away in January.

He said: ‘The transition window opens on January 1, so I’ll talk to Rodgers and hear what is the plan.’

And these comments are sure to intrigue some of our resident Celtic fans, many of whom will be well aware that Ajer has been a regular part of the matchday squad under Rodgers this term, although that hasn’t always translated into minutes on the pitch.

Landlord’s verdict: 19-year-old Kristoffer Ajer is certainly one for the future at Celtic, yet he is well aware that his needs gametime at this stage of his career to aid in his development and thus fulfil his potential.

And with just six appearances in all competitions so far this term, the defender is looking to speak with manager Brendan Rodgers in January about what the immediate future holds.

But given that he has been in all but two of their Scottish Premiership matchday squads this term, it very much remains to be seen whether the Celtic chief sanctions a loan move in January.
