Celtic: Ange Postecoglou a ‘key target’ for Brighton and Hove Albion -Celtic News

Journalist and sports broadcaster Charlie Haffenden has revealed that Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou is a ‘key target’ for Brighton and Hove Albion.

The Lowdown: Potter leaves

It has been confirmed that Graham Potter has left the Amex Stadium to take up the managerial vacancy left by Thomas Tuchel at Chelsea.

It means that the Seagulls are now actively looking for a new manager to replace him and will be hoping to bring one in before the international break later this month.

The Latest: Postecoglou interest

Taking to Twitter, Haffenden has revealed that Celtic manager Postecoglou is a ‘key target’ for Brighton to replace Potter,

The journalist tweeted: “Ange Postecoglou is among a list of priority targets to replace Graham Potter at Brighton, Iā€™m told. The Aussie has led Celtic to 49 wins in 68 matches (72%), gaining 2.26 points per match since joining in 2021. Not easy to pry away, but a key target nonetheless.”

The Verdict: Worrying for Celtic

It is certainly worrying for Celtic supporters to hear of Brighton’s firm interest in Postecoglou, given that Steven Gerrard left Rangers and the Premiership to join Aston Villa in the Premier League in not dissimilar circumstances nearly a year ago.

Indeed, Hoops fans may well be fearing a repeat of when Brendan Rodgers left Parkhead during the 2018/19 season to take the vacancy at English top-flight outfit Leicester City.

Hailed for having an ‘unbelievable‘ first season at Celtic by former Aberdeen striker Noel Whelan, the Australian helped wrestle the league title back from the Hoops’ bitter Glasgow rivals and also won the Scottish League Cup (Transfermarkt).

This season, the 57-year-old has won every game in the league so far, and his team even gave Champions League holders Real Madrid a fright despite a 3-0 home defeat last week.

Nonetheless, the Bhoys will not want Postecoglou to depart so soon after joining, but the Premier League has already shown that it can be an attractive proposition for those in Scottish football.
