Celtic: Alan Hutton gives harsh reality to Neil Lennon after ‘unbelievable’ development - Celtic

Former Scotland international Alan Hutton believes there is still a major “worry” for Neil Lennon’s future at Celtic, after the Hoops completed an “unbelievable” quadruple treble.

Hutton doesn’t hold back

The Irish tactician secured an unprecedented quadruple treble after his side had to beat the Scottish Championship team on penalties.

But Lennon has come under intense scrutiny after falling behind arch-rivals Rangers in the Scottish Premiership table and exiting Europe with just one win to their name.

There's no way you can name all ten obscure Celtic players! First up, who is this?

Speaking to Football Insider, Hutton believes that last weekend’s cup triumph temporarily masks up what is really going on at the club.

“I always thought Celtic were going to win this game, I must admit that. I did believe that even if they did win it, it is papering over the cracks,” he said.

“Obviously there are situations going on over there with their league form, the Europa form, everything that’s going along with the manager, it’s a difficult situation. It’s good what they’ve done, nobody can take that away from them.

“Twelve trophies is an unbelievable haul over the recent seasons but this is the first year they’ve come up against a team that’s pushing them all the way and they’re not used to that, they’re not used to that intensity I don’t think, so it is it’s a difficult time for them.

“They would have been expected to blow Hearts away and they didn’t. They went 2-0 up, you thought right it’s done and dusted, probably a few more goals, and they let Hearts back into it and we’ve seen those defensive frailties yet again. Yes, they won, but there’s still a worry there in my opinion.”

Transfer Tavern Verdict

Hutton is unfortunately right – the problems at the club, on the pitch, are still seismic. Forget games in hand, being 16 points behind one’s biggest rivals is never a good thing.

However, with a trip to Ibrox in the New Year, Lennon can turn his fortunes around but only if he can find some consistency.

Time will tell how much longer Lennon will get in the hot seat, even with the backing of the board.
