Celtic: Alex McLeish has his say on Kyogo Furuhashi

Celtic: Alex McLeish has his say on Kyogo Furuhashi -Celtic

Pundit Alex McLeish has been giving his thoughts on Celtic forward Kyogo Furuhashi, Football Insider report.

The Lowdown: Celtic’s struggles without Furuhashi

Furuhashi missed five games in September for the Hoops with a knee injury he picked up while playing for Japan.

In those five fixtures, the Hoops picked up just four points out of nine in the Scottish Premiership, lost to Real Betis in the Europa League and defeated Raith Rovers in the League Cup.

Displays against Livingston and Dundee United appeared to lack cutting edge without Furuhashi, who has netted eight goals in 11 Celtic games.

The Latest: McLeish’s comments

McLeish, who features on BBC, was asked by Football Insider in a story on Friday if the Hoops had become too reliant on the 26-year-old.

This is what he had to say in reply, discussing his goal against Aberdeen and believing Celtic will be ‘hurting’ if they are without the forward again after what he’s seen so far.

“You can honestly say yes. He’s full of energy, he’s full of movement.

“His movement for the first goal was brilliant. We’ve seen him do that in previous games. It looks as if he can spot space and he’ll run into it.

“If the other Celtic players can spot he’s also doing that, like the cross for the goal, it’s great.

“It was an easy cross and Kyogo, his movement in there was too good for the defender. That is a feature of that guy’s play.

“Right at this moment, Celtic will be hurting, if they don’t have him in the starting lineup.

“Someone else will have to step up to the plate, but we’ve yet to see that.”

How well do you remember these Celtic signings? First up, where did Christopher Jullien arrive from?

The Verdict: Spot on…

Albian Ajeti was brought in to the side in Furuhashi’s absence but drew a blank against Livingston and Dundee United when the Hoops needed him most.

Furuhashi has stepped up when needed, most recently by opening the scoring against Aberdeen, so if the Hoops were without him for a period of time again, they could struggle.

Perhaps Ange Postecoglou needs to add to his attacking ranks in January, but hopefully, between now and then, Furuhashi will remain fit.
