Former Scotland manager Alex McLeish believes that Celtic would be making a clear message if they managed to sign Manchester United goalkeeper Dean Henderson.
Henderson on Parkhead radar
The Red Devils are ready to sanction another loan move for the 23-year-old after spending last season at Sheffield United, where he put in a series of impressive performances, with Celtic one of the clubs now interested in his services, according to 90MIN.
His former teammate Sander Berge acknowledged the talent that Henderson possesses, describing him as “exceptional” during his time at Bramall Lane (cited by YorkshireLive).
Speaking to Football Insider, McLeish gushed over Henderson and hopes that Celtic can complete a move for him.
“Yeah, he’s quite special,” he said. “From the footage I saw of him from the whole of last season, he was at a fabulous level.
“His team actually had a great season built on the back of some fantastic work by him. That’s what they say about a goalkeeper, they can save you, a good club goalie, 10 points a season, an international goalie 15 points a season, a world-class goalie, 20-odd points a season.
“These are the numbers that these goalkeepers, along with the coaches, strive to make and that, for me, would be a very strong statement.”
Transfer Tavern take
After the criticism that new signing that Vasilis Barkas has received since his £3m move from AEK Athens, this will understandably get Bhoys’ fans excited.
Neil Lennon’s side are already playing catch up to Rangers and the addition of Henderson would be a huge boost to the team, especially after failing to re-sign Fraser Forster in the summer.
That being said, the season is still young and their fortunes can quickly change. But the Hoops will have to rely on other teams taking points from their arch-rivals to reach the top and to achieve 10-in-a-row.
