Celtic: Alex McLeish makes Ange Postecoglou claim -Celtic News

Pundit Alex McLeish has claimed that Celtic manager Ange Postecoglou will attract suitors ahead of the summer, but expects him to stay at Parkhead.

The lowdown: Onlookers impressed

Appointed in June 2021 on a 12-month rolling contract, the 56-year-old has overseen a dramatic transformation in fortunes at Celtic Park and currently sits on the cusp of a potential domestic treble.

Recently, Hoops legend Kenny Dalglish praised the Greek-Australian boss and suggested that Premier League clubs could become attentive to his services.

Now, McLeish has doubled down on that claim while praising the job done by Postecoglou at Lennoxtown…

The latest: ‘He’ll stay’

Speaking to Football Insider, the 63 year-old ex-Scotland boss turned Rangers TV pundit suggested that Postecoglou will stay put for now, but there will indeed be interest.

“Why not? You’ve done a good job at the Old Firm. When I left Rangers, there were a couple of English teams interested. I’d gone to Scotland on an interim (basis) but it was because of the work I’d done at Rangers.

“There were a few English clubs that came in and I took on one of the challenges in Birmingham.

“Postecoglou, he will love what’s happening at Celtic right now and what he’s done. I’m sure that people in football, other clubs, have taken notice. You could not rule it out in the future.

“But right now, he’ll stay at Celtic.”

The verdict: Keep at all costs

Whilst there is no immediate danger of losing the former Australian national team coach, tying down the man at the heart of the Bhoys’ rebuild to a longer contract would be a welcome boost to supporters.

Albeit there was sense in the initial 12-month rolling deal, given the manager’s inexperience in Europe, now as Celtic stand on the brink of regaining the Scottish Premiership title it would be wise to offer an improved deal, if not only to fend off any potential suitors.

With the prospect of UEFA Champions League group stage football next season and another crucial summer transfer window beforehand, the club will want stability in the managerial role and there is nobody better place to provide it than Postecoglou.
