The Lowdown: Jullien out of the picture
The Hoops enjoyed a memorable 2021/22 season, winning both the league title and the Scottish League Cup in Ange Postecoglou’s first year in charge.
It has been a great team effort, with numerous players proving to be influential, but someone who has barely played a part in that success is Jullien.
The Latest: Joseph update on Jullien’s Celtic future
Taking to Twitter on Wednesday, Joseph provided a brief and succinct update on Jullien’s future at Celtic, admitting that the club are looking at other centre-back options.
The Sky Sports reporter posted: “Despite talks ongoing with Spurs and Carter-Vickers, it’s understood the Hoops are on the lookout for an additional centre-back, with Chris Jullien’s future uncertain.”
The Verdict: Time to move on?
You have to feel sorry for Jullien, with injuries massively halting his progress at Celtic after he looked so impressive in his first few months at the club – indeed, the legendary Henrik Larsson previously spoke highly of the “presence” that the 6 foot 5 Frenchman added to the team in defence.
However, at 29, you wonder if now could be the right time for him to move on.
In Cameron Carter-Vickers and Carl Starfelt, the Hoops could have their centre-back pairing locked down for years to come, assuming that the former signs permanently this summer, amid reports that he could do so.
Also, Jullien’s current Celtic deal expires next summer, so this summer could be the club’s last chance to earn any kind of transfer fee for him, which suggests that this is the right time to cash in on him before he leaves for nothing.
In other news, one player is believed to have agreed personal terms with Celtic. Find out who it is here.
