Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph has provided an update on reported Celtic transfer target Edouard Michut.

The Lowdown: Celtic linked with Michut

The Hoops have been busy this summer and have already made five permanent signings at a cost of just over £18m. Loan moves for Jota, Cameron Carter-Vickers and Daizen Maeda have been made permanent, while Alexandro Bernabei and Benjamin Siegrist have also come to Parkhead.

More new signings could be on the way, though, with Celtic thought to be keen on Michut. Rumours in recent days have suggested that Ange Postecoglou’s side are weighing up a move in the region of £2m for the 19-year-old from Paris Saint-Germain, but it looks as if they’ll need to pay much more than that.

The Latest: Joseph’s update

Joseph took to Twitter on Friday afternoon to provide the latest on Michut.

He revealed: "UPDATE: PSG have told interested parties they want £5m for midfielder Edouard Michut. @SkySportsNews revealed Celtic had expressed an interest in the 19-year-old, but Ange Postecoglou played down the chances of signing him. Sevilla, Nice & Toulouse are also keen on the player."

The Verdict: Unlikely?

It looks as if Celtic will need to pay more than double what they were preparing to offer for Michut, which could make a move unlikely.

Michut, who predominantly operates as an attack-minded midfielder, has made just eight senior appearances for the French giants, so it may well be a gamble for the Hoops to pay around £5m for his signature.

Postecoglou is fairly light when it comes to central attacking midfielders, though, so the Parkhead hierarchy will need to think hard as to whether they should still pursue Michut or move on to alternative targets.
