Celtic: Butt could be Keane’s No.2 following United exit

Celtic: Butt could be Keane’s No.2 following United exit - Celtic

Nicky Butt left his role at Manchester United as head of first-team development on Wednesday and could now reportedly be on his way to Celtic.

The 46-year-old spent nine years at Old Trafford, helping several United youngsters become first-team regulars.

Butt to join Keane at Celtic?

According to Football Insider, Butt could move to Parkhead to work alongside former teammate Roy Keane.

Celtic sources have allegedly informed Football Insider that Butt has been lined up to become Keane’s assistant at Parkhead, with the Irishman set to be offered the vacant managerial role.

The news regarding the pair were shared in separate stories on Thursday morning, with Football Insider labelling Keane’s potential return to the dugout as sensational.

Would you take Keane at Celtic?

Transfer Tavern take

It seems that the links to Keane are gathering pace – his partner in crime on Sky Sports, Micah Richards, appeared to drop a hint on Thursday – and should the Irishman indeed make the return to Glasgow Park and bring Butt with him, we’re not sure where that would leave Celtic’s current first-team staff.

John Kennedy has been in interim charge of the Hoops following Neil Lennon’s resignation, but if Butt makes the move north with Keane, the former may well be surplus to requirements in the summer.

Reports earlier this month had suggested that Keane could work with Kennedy and the current backroom staff, however, following the latest report regarding Butt, that may not be the case. Change is afoot.
