Celtic are expected to complete the signing of Tottenham Hotspur central defender Cameron Carter-Vickers on a permanent basis, according to football.london’s Alasdair Gold

The lowdown: Talks held

This comes following a report from SBI Soccer claiming that the Hoops had held advanced talks over the last week with Tottenham regarding the future of the 24-year-old.

Despite claims of interest from Wolves, Leicester City, and Watford, Celtic appear to remain in the hot seat to sign the USA international, with the American source detailing a £6m initial fee which could rise to £10m.

The latest: Gold expects move

As per the report from football.london's Tottenham Hotspur correspondent, Celtic are 'expected to take up the option' to buy the eight-cap ace.

It's claimed that the Glasgow giants will indeed pay £6million up front.

Furthermore, the report states that the loan switch has been a 'big success' for the man recently hailed as 'immense' by Chris Sutton following a match-winning display against Rangers containing seven successful aerial duels, eight clearances and 31 accurate passes (Sofascore).

The verdict: No brainer

Given the levels of performance from Carter-Vickers this season, it would be regarded as a major oversight were Celtic to miss out on the capture - he has been hailed as 'quick' by Jonathan Woodgate, and has used that athleticism to take like a duck to water to life in the Scottish Premiership.

So far this term the Southend-born star has scored four times from 42 appearances across all competitions and was subsequently named in the PFA Scotland Team of the Year this week.

Forging a healthy understanding alongside Carl Starfelt, the Bhoys have kept the most clean sheets in the Scottish Premiership this campaign with 18, a record that has taken Ange Postecoglou's side to the brink of the title.
