The Lowdown: Starring in Qatar
The Hoops have been linked with a swoop for the 24-year-old, who currently plays his football for Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors, and a close family member has now delivered a promising update regarding his next destination.
The Latest: Mystery move
Speaking during an interview in his homeland (as relayed by Glasgow Times), Gue-Sung’s father confirmed that his son’s representative is completing a deal to Europe, but failed to reveal which club he would be joining. He said:
“The advice I have given my son is when he signs for a team abroad, go to a club that can play the way he likes, rather than choosing a club because they are a big name.
“He needs a club that will help him adapt and settle down to a new lifestyle on and off the pitch.
“I know his agent is in the process of finalising negotiations regarding his transfer overseas. He will certainly go to Europe.
“Ahead of the World Cup, I told him that this was a tournament that he had to show everyone what he could do on the pitch and I think he did that.
“He has had a great time at the World Cup and I am certainly very proud of him.”
The Verdict: Exciting addition
Ange Postecoglou has never been one to shy away from targeting foreign transfer markets, and Cho would be another hugely exciting addition should he put pen to paper.
The centre-forward has netted an astonishing 21 goals and registered five assists in just 35 appearances across all competitions this campaign, and also has the versatility to operate on the left wing (Transfermarkt).
Giorgos Giakoumakis’ contract talks have stalled over the last few weeks, so it makes sense for the Celtic boss to bring in a potential replacement in case he departs.
