Celtic: Elhamed and Frimpong linked with Hoops departures -Celtic

It appears as though Celtic’s Head of Recruitment, Nick Hammond, could be forced to deal with an imminent issue at the right-back position, with both Jeremie Frimpong and Hatem Abd Elhamed linked with moves away from Celtic.

Frimpong, who is a natural right-back and has played in the vast majority of the Glasgow club’s games this season, is attracting interest from Premier League Southampton, as well as several EFL Championship clubs, per The Scottish Sun

Who did Larsson make his debut against?

Meanwhile, The Scottish Sun has also claimed that Elhamed, who has primarily played at right-back throughout his Hoops career since joining the club back in the summer of 2019, could be set for a ‘shock exit’ from Parkhead in January, as he is ‘unsettled’ in Glasgow and The Hoops are allegedly prepared to listen to offers for the player when the transfer window reopens next month.

What problems could these potential departures create for Celtic and Hammond?

According to Transfermarkt, Celtic have got two other senior players on their books who are naturals at the right-back position, one being 21-year-old Manny Perez, who is yet to play for the Glasgow club, and the other being 22-year-old Anthony Ralston, who last played for the Hoops in August 2019

It would seem that neither of those players are seen as key members of Neil Lennon’s squad at present and so, if either Frimpong or Elhamed – or, perhaps, both – are set for the exit door next month, then Hammond will need to have adequate potential replacements lined up, especially with the Hoops chasing what would be a historic 10th straight Scottish top-flight title this term.

Are you worried by this transfer claim?

It is stated that Elhamed will only be sold if Celtic can sign a replacement, however, and as he is allegedly unsettled, perhaps it would be best for all if he does move on, with Hammond already said to be lining up right-back transfer targets.

In other news, Kieran Devlin has claimed that Celtic don’t need to make ‘desperate additions’ in January.
