Celtic reportedly opened talks with Manchester City man Fergal Harkin on Friday.

And now, according to Football Insider, the 44-year-old has been identified as a top target to fill the newly created director of football role.

Celtic impressed, manager update provided

The major report claims that the Hoops have been impressed with the Irishman, while also providing an update on the club’s search for a new first-team manager.

They claim that Celtic will look to finalise a deal for a director of football, who will then have a major say on Neil Lennon’s long-term successor.

Transfer Tavern take

Bringing in a director of football first to have a key say in the next Hoops boss seems to be a smart decision.

The two, whoever they may be, will have to work closely in order to get the best results for the Hoops, with an important summer transfer window approaching.

Harkin seems to be one of the frontrunners for the director of football role, and he’ll already know a man linked with the manager’s seat very well - Enzo Maresca, who currently manages Manchester City’s Under-23 side.

Could the two Manchester City men link up in Glasgow? Only time will tell.
