Celtic have officially confirmed Kyogo Furuhashi’s international call up for Japan.

The Lowdown: U-turn on Furuhashi

Furuhashi came back injured from the last international break with a knee issue which kept him out of five Hoops fixtures.

The 26-year-old wasn’t initially named in Japan’s squad for World Cup qualifiers against Saudi Arabia and Australia but returned for the Hoops against Bayer Leverkusen in the Europa League.

A press release then emerged on Friday, with Furuhashi called up to represent his country. Furuhashi then netted his eighth Celtic goal in a 2-1 win over Aberdeen on Sunday.

The Latest: Celtic confirmation

The Hoops had shared news late last month on Callum McGregor and David Turnbull’s selection for Scotland but posted nothing on Furuhashi.

However, the club released details of all their players heading out on international duty on their official Twitter page on Monday evening.

That included Furuhashi, who is one of nine players who have been called up to senior international squads.

The Verdict: Worry for Postecoglou

With Furuhashi starting Celtic’s last two fixtures, you’d expect he’ll be in line to feature heavily for Japan.

That’s not exactly ideal news for the Hoops, who will be hoping that lightning won’t strike twice when it comes to their forward coming back injured from international duty.

Remaining at Lennoxtown under Ange Postecoglou may have been the club’s hopes for Furuhashi, however, the Celtic manager will now have to watch from behind the sofa as his star man possibly features against his native country.

In other news: Celtic are considering boss with similar style to Ange; he played golf with Desmond last week.
