Vasilis Barkas and Boli Bolingoli could be the next players to leave Celtic in the January transfer window.

The lowdown

With just over a week of the window gone, Celtic have parted with two players, albeit temporarily.

Liam Shaw and Ewan Henderson have joined Motherwell and Hibernian respectively on loan.

Celtic paid £4.5million to sign Barkas from AEK Athens in July 2020, while Bolingoli cost £3.01million when he joined from Rapid Vienna.

Unfortunately for The Hoops, their valuations have now fallen to £1.35million apiece (via Transfermarkt).

The latest

Sky Sports reported on Friday that Celtic were looking to 'offload a number of players' this month.

Their squad has swelled to 32 players with the signings of Daizen Maeda, Yosuke Ideguchi and Reo Hatate.

One of the players The Hoops hoped to move was Shaw, who duly completed his loan switch before the weekend.

And now attention may turn to negotiating exits for Barkas and Bolingoli. There's plenty of interest in Barkas, especially in Turkey, but that hasn't led to any formal offers as yet.

The verdict

It's clear that Ange Postecoglou doesn't particularly rate either of those two players.

Both Barkas and Bolingoli have made just two appearances in all competitions this season, and the latter hasn't featured since 16 October.

While Barkas did play Celtic's last game prior to the winter break against St Johnstone, that may simply have been a case of putting him in the shop window.

Celtic look likely to make a considerable loss on both players but if they were to sell the pair for their estimated valuations, that would at least put them in the black for the January window.

And getting their salaries - £15,000 per week for Bolingoli and £9,000 per week for Barkas, totalling over £1.2m each year - off the books will help matters too.
