Boli Bolingoli has left Celtic to join Russian side FC Ufa on loan until the end of the season.

The Lowdown: Bolingoli’s Celtic career

Bolingoli joined the Hoops back in 2019 from Rapid Vienna in a deal worth £3m. However, the 26-year-old has only made 31 appearances in green and white since then – two of which have come under Ange Postecoglou in 2021/22.

The Belgian, who the club slammed for a ‘stupid’ health protocol breach in 2020, spent time out on loan in Turkey last year and he’ll now ply his trade in Russia over the coming months.

The Latest: FC Ufa announce move

FC Ufa took to Twitter on Tuesday afternoon, sharing a picture of Bolingoli holding up a club shirt. They revealed that Bolingoli has joined on loan until the end of the current campaign, labelling the player as a winger.

“FC Ufa and Scottish Celtic have agreed to lease left winger Boli Bolingoli Mbombo.

“The lease agreement is valid until the end of the current season.”

The Hoops are yet to confirm the departure on their official website, making it a transfer that may have gone under the radar to some.

The Verdict: FC Ufa to use Bolingoli further forward?

Bolingoli has experience of playing further forward, turning out as a left-midfielder or left-winger on 37 occasions during his career.

FC Ufa’s post could be a sign of how they plan to use Bolingoli over the coming months, and everyone at Parkhead will be hoping he can impress in the second half of the season.

Doing so may well lead to a permanent exit in the summer, when Bolingoli will be into the final 12 months of his Hoops deal, meaning the club could still receive a fee for his services.
