Celtic face AC Milan in the Europa League tonight. They may need the victory to save Neil Lennon’s job, but the manager’s injury update on Shane Duffy could make this task even more daunting.
Lennon’s update on Shane Duffy
Speaking in his press conference before the match, Lennon said: “Duffy’s having his knee assessed, he picked up a knock today so we’ll see how he is. I’ll still put a strong team out and give some players some much needed game time as well.”
Big blow for Celtic
Lennon praised the defender earlier this season, saying: “Shane, we all know what the club means to him, but to score on his debut was just great. I think after the goal he just looked peerless, just outstanding.”
The fact the manager gave him such praise emphasises that he sees him as a vital player for the Hoops. The 28 year-old has played 21 times for both club and country this season, managing 1.1 tackles and 3.6 clearances per game (WhoScored). He has also been an attacking threat for Celtic as he has managed 1.2 shots per game and scored two goals, whilst also picking up one assist.
The defender provides strength and experience at both ends of the pitch regardless of a little dip in form, so this news is the last thing Lennon wanted.
