The last three fixtures for Celtic have been very crucial matches, but none of them have gone as planned. Neil Lennon’s side lost to Old Firm rivals Glasgow Rangers as well as AC Milan.
They then had Aberdeen to face in the Scottish Premiership. It looked like a good performance as they came from behind to take a 3-2 lead, but a last-minute penalty to Aberdeen meant the Hoops only picked up one point.
What Lennon said about the latest criticism:
A tweet from Alison Conroy, who is the Sports Editor at Radio Clyde, has drawn plenty of attention as she reported Lennon’s response to his critics: “There’s no justification at the moment for me to be sacked, none whatsoever.”
Per Sky Sports, he continued to quash rumours of an exit: “I sound like Donald Trump now but it’s all fake news.”
Is Lennon right?
Celtic still have a game in hand in the Premiership and five more games in their Europa League group. His track record suggests he is the right man to get them out of this rough patch, as he has guided them to four league titles and multiple domestic cups at the helm of the club.
He also boasts a fantastic CV at the club alongside his trophies, as he has only lost 47 of his 308 games in charge. As a result of this record, it is understandable to see him somewhat frustrated by the criticism after a short run of poor form.
It is still very early in the season as well. Therefore it seems crazy that people are calling for him to be sacked. That said, there is added pressure as the club embark on a quest to become the first side in Scottish history to win the title ten times in a row.
The upcoming fixtures for Lennon are crucial, and he will need to get some victories to try and convince the doubters he is indeed still the right man for the job.
In other news, a former Scottish international has heaped praise on one Celtic defender. Have a read who it is here!
