Celtic have bolstered their squad at the back by signing centre-back Shane Duffy on a season-long loan from Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion.
The defender has a wealth of experience both at club level and on the international scene as well, per Transfermarkt, as he has made 330 appearances across his career for sides like Brighton, Blackburn and Everton. Meanwhile he has 33 caps for the Republic of Ireland and has scored three goals along the way.
Clearly the 28 year-old Irishman is excited about the move as he went to post on Instagram following the signing being completed. The post was a picture of him in the Celtic kit, supported with the caption: “My dream to play for Celtic is here. I can’t thank everyone enough who helped me get this move done . I will give it my everything for this club to succeed while I am here now let’s go do it I CAN’T wait.”
Fans of the Celts should be happy with his reaction to signing and hopefully he puts in some great performances which match his passion to play for the club.
It is definitely a good bit of business for the Hoops as it means they have a lot of strength in depth at centre-back and the fact they were able to get him on a loan when he is valued at £8.55 million should go down as a great bit of business due to the fact that Duffy’s contract at Brighton expires at the end of the 2020/21 season so if he impresses, the club may be able to to acquire him on a free transfer in the summer of 2021.
