Reliable reporter Alan Nixon has fired a warning to the Celtic board in regards to their hesitancy in the search for a new manager and director of football.

The Lowdown: Howe to Celtic appears to be back on

It’s no secret Celtic are interested in bringing former Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe to Parkhead.

Howe did have second thoughts after verbally agreeing to become Neil Lennon’s successor, although he is now reportedly finalising his Celtic Park backroom staff ahead of a summer return to the dugout.

Meanwhile, the club are still yet to announce a new director of football. They were thought to be closing in on Manchester City man Fergal Harkin for the newly-created role, with the Irishman knowing Peter Lawwell very well.

However, like with their search for a new manager, a deal for a DoF is still yet to be confirmed.

The Latest: Nixon’s warning

Nixon, who writes for The Sun, was asked by a Celtic fan on Twitter for his thoughts on the lack of communication from the Hoops on their hunt for two off-field appointments.

This is what he had to say in reply, believing ‘they will be crucified’ should deals break down.

“Need to fill two top posts. Both obviously not straightforward. So doing a running commentary doesn’t help... but if they fail they will be crucified.”

The Verdict: Deals need to be agreed

The Hoops have since released a statement ensuring fans they are working hard for a smooth transition this summer, but there is still very little concrete detail available.

That said, these things take time, and rushing into a deal which doesn't suit the club is the last thing Hoops fans need.

However, as Nixon claims, should deals break down, plenty of supporters will more than likely be fuming with new CEO Dominic McKay, Lawwell and Dermot Desmond.

Time is ticking, and with a squad rebuild seemingly needed at Parkhead, the club could do with trying to force through two major off-field moves to get a head start on summer business.

However, for now, we, and the rest of the Celtic faithful will have to remain patient.
