Celtic: Noel Whelan backs Cameron Harper to break through at the club this season

Every year, teams across the globe find emerging young talents but only a select few break through and make a name for themselves in the first team. Celtic have had this before with young Karamoko Dembele, and now another young player is being backed to break through this season.
Former Coventry City striker Noel Whelan has been discussing Cameron Harper, and he has full faith in the player to make a name for himself at the club.
What did Whelan have to say about Celtic player Cameron Harper?
Speaking to Football Insider, Whelan said: “It is an important season but you can never turn a blind eye to a good, young talent. There will always be injuries, suspensions and people catching Covid. He might be used but Neil Lennon will know that he has got a great prospect that he could throw in at the deep end this season if needed.
“Young players would relish that opportunity because that is the next progression for them. Neil Lennon will want these young players to put pressure on the first team. That is what it is all about. That is where Lennon started. You cannot have too much respect for the first team players. Admire them but push them because you want their space.
“Lennon wants competition for places and he has shown that he can do it at the youth levels for both club and country. Watch this space because Cameron Harper may break through this season.”
Can Harper breakthrough this season at Celtic?
The 18 year-old winger has not made his senior debut for the Hoops yet, however the fact that he is already being spoken about highlights that many believe he can make a serious impact.
Does Harper deserve to be given his debut for Celtic at some point this season?
Yes

No

He has been named on the bench three times this season for the senior squad, which shows that Lennon clearly thinks he is close to being ready to play soon.
Whelan is right when he says this season might be the best time for the player to emerge due to recent events too. With at least four first team players like Odsonne Edouard currently having to isolate, Lennon might need to call on him sooner rather than later.
He is already involved in the first-team setup, so he is no doubt showing glimpses of his potential during training, and if the club are doing well in a fixture or are running away with the league at some point this season, it would be great if Hoops fans can see Harper make his debut.
