Brown leads by example
The Hoops advanced to the Scottish Cup final and ensured that a quadruple-treble was still on after first-half strikes from Ryan Christie and Mohamed Elyounoussi were enough to secure the win.
Speaking to Football Insider, Whelan agreed with Brown and echoed his comments, as well as emphasising how huge the Hampden Park win was for them.
“I would agree that it was their best performance in 18 months,” he said.
“They needed that game. They needed that performance, for sure. There has been a lot of doubt creeping in, even though they are Celtic.
“With no wins in three, it had to come. Neil Lennon needed that performance and those goals to come back into the side.
“A clean sheet as well. That was massive. For me, that was the biggest thing. Keeping a clean sheet was crucial because they have been leaking far too many goals.
“It was a collective effort against a great Aberdeen side. They all needed that. They got everything right on the day. Hopefully, it will kick them on in the league.”
Transfer Tavern take
Brown will down as one of the greatest players to ever wear the famous green and white hooped shirt, right up there alongside the likes of Henrik Larsson, Sir Kenny Dalglish, Stiliyan Petrov and many, many more.
Their win should provide them a fantastic confidence boost after they’ve found themselves playing catchup with arch-rivals Rangers taking the lead in the Scottish Premiership.
Whelan is right, Neil Lennon’s side have the opportunity to take confidence from that performance at the weekend into their league games and claw back some of the points that were lost earlier in the campaign.
