The 20 year-old striker signed a three-year deal with the Championship side and will head out on loan to Stevenage.
Aitchison told the Barnsley website: “I was excited to get down here and get the deal done. As soon as I knew there was a chance of coming to Barnsley, I didn’t have to think twice.”
This move has seen former Coventry City striker Noel Whelan discuss the young player. He believes that those associated with the Hoops might see him at the club again.
Whelan’s comments on Celtic selling Aitchison
Speaking via Football Insider, Whelan said, “It is great to see a young player getting out there in search of first team football. It is the best thing for Aitchison.
“If he is not up to scratch and is not going to be required throughout the season then it is best to cut them loose.
“The club will know the good players they have got coming through their ranks. If a player is not up to their requirements then they will let them go.
“You never know, in few years time, playing at Barnsley, they might reconsider and sign him back for a lot more!”
Do you think Celtic will re-sign Jack Aitchison?
Will Celtic re-sign Aitchison in the future?
The former striker is right in saying that the best thing for the 20 year-old to do is look for consistent first team football. It looked like he was not getting that at the Hoops and therefore a move was a good idea.
His potential was highlighted by the fact that he has already played 16 times for the Scotland U19 setup, where he has scored 11 times, per Transfermarkt.
His record for the youth sides at Celtic is also very decent as he has played 22 games and scored nine goals, per Transfermarkt, including six in the UEFA Youth League.
Neil Lennon also rewarded him with three appearances in the Scottish Premiership, all before 2018, highlighting how highly rated he was at the club. He did even manage a goal, but clearly the Scottish side believe that his growth has stunted and he needs to be sold.
His stats show that he has the potential to be a good striker. Therefore a possible reunion could definitely happen in the future. However, for him to impress the Hoops he will need to set the English leagues alight.
