Speaking to Football Insider, pundit Noel Whelan has dropped a Celtic claim amid reports of a fresh development that the Hoops’ management team and Neil Lennon are now under review – going on to say that ‘something is not right‘ at the the club right now.
Sky Sports journalist Anthony Joseph, just two days ago, recently updated Celtic supporters with news that Lennon and the Hoops management team are now under ‘ongoing’ review from their board (Twitter), with that news prompting Whelan to give his take on the development.
Indeed, Celtic backed their boss before the turn of the new year and said they would assess his situation in 2021 – and that review is now underway and ‘ongoing’ according to Joseph, with the Hoops set for a key decision.
Whelan drops behind-scenes Celtic claim
Whelan, speaking to Football Insider, claimed that ‘something has got to give’ between the board and Lennon – whilst dropping a behind-scenes take on the feeling at Celtic Park and stating they do have a ‘good relationship’.
“Well, look, something’s got to give, come to an agreement with the manager, but they do have a good relationship,” the BBC pundit explained.
“It’s not the first time Neil’s been at the football club, he’s been very successful as a manager there at Celtic but at the same time, something’s not right at that football club.”
He also gave his verdict on the infamous trip to Dubai, with controversial magnate Peter Lawwell even admitting it was ‘clearly a mistake’ after the COVID-19 outbreak (Goal).
“They piled more pressure on themselves going abroad,” Whelan continued.
“Then you’ve got a Covid situation with a player, then you’ve got another Covid situation with another player, then the manager is not down there on the touchline as well because everyone’s having to isolate.
“It just seemed a ridiculous decision after the season that we’re having and the poor results that were going on at Celtic, to put that kind of pressure on yourself and go abroad during these sort of times.”
Transfer Tavern take
What conclusion the board come to regarding Lennon remains to be seen, but his future has been at the centre of much debate over this regrettable season so far.
Celtic now have a key decision to make, and the outcome will certainly be interesting – especially considering who could potentially replace him at the helm.
