Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson believes that one deadline day transfer is ‘bad news’ for Celtic ahead of Wednesday night's Glasgow derby.

The Lowdown: Ramsey move

The Hoops were fairly quiet in the final hours of the window, offloading three players on loan in Osaze Urhoghide, Adam Montgomery and Kerr McInroy. There were no arrivals at Parkhead, with Ange Postecoglou ending the month with five new players.

Their rivals across the city were active, though, with Aaron Ramsey arriving on loan late in the day. He joined from Italian giants Juventus, who cooperated for the Welshman to fit the wage structure at Ibrox.

The Latest: Merson’s comments

Talking live on Sky Sports’ deadline day coverage (31/01, 14:07), Merson had this to say about Ramsey moving to Ibrox:

“Brilliant for Rangers, absolutely brilliant news. Bad news for Celtic. Brilliant news for Rangers.”

The Verdict: Derby too soon?

Ramsey admitted after signing for Rangers that tomorrow night's Glasgow Derby will probably come too soon for his debut.

That could be good news for Ange Postecoglou’s side as they look to go top of the Premiership with a win over their rivals. It looks set to be a crucial game under the lights at Celtic Park, and their arch-rivals being without their new marquee signing may be a boon to those in green and white.

However, even though Ramsey revealed that he may not feature in midweek, it wouldn’t come as a total shock if Giovanni van Bronckhorst included him in the matchday squad, especially after they dropped points at Ross County on the weekend.
