Celtic insider Phil MacGiollabhain has recently provided some information about the club’s intentions of potentially replacing chief executive Peter Lawwell.
Peter Lawwell has been the chief executive at Parkhead since 2003 and he had taken over that role from a position as commercial director with ports and property company, Clydeport. He had previously been a financial controller at Parkhead from 1990 to 1991 (as per CelticWiki).
Should Peter Lawwell be replaced?
Celtic looking at potential Lawwell replacements
Hoops-oriented blogger MacGiollabhain recently wrote an article about the club’s future plans, when it comes to the Celtic board and Lawwell’s future. He revealed that the information he has received came from a ‘well-placed’ source of his.
The source has revealed that Celtic’s majority shareholder Dermot Desmond and his men are taking a ‘deep dive’ into the situation at Parkhead.
The article also said:
My only glimmer of hope yesterday was when I spoke with a very well-placed source last night. He is in a position to know what is happening on Planet Dermot and is certain that Desmond has had his people ‘deep dive’ into the current situation.
Last night he stated that process was close to completion and that ‘individuals are being looked at to take over from Lawwell’.
The article also said that the AGM on Monday was the club board’s last potential chance to avoid a rupture in the connect between the club and the fans.
Things not going well at Parkhead
The Hoops are currently as many 13 points behind the Gers and are already out of the Europa League. The protests outside Parkhead clearly show that the fans aren’t happy with the job that Lawwell is doing at the club, let alone Neil Lennon.
Former Celtic player Charlie Nicholas had recently said that Lawwell will leave the Parkhead-based club this season and he also said that he won’t be surprised if one of Desmond’s sons arrives in his place (as per the Scottish Sun).
This shows that the idea of Lawwell being replaced isn’t a new one and it has been talked about before. So because of that, it won’t be a surprise if he does leave soon – especially if results don’t go Celtic’s way this season.
