Celtic have accepted an offer from Japanese outfit Urawa Red Diamonds for striker Giorgos Giakoumakis, according to Sky Sports reporter Anthony Joseph.

The Lowdown: Giakoumakis linked with exit

The Greek star has been linked with a move away from Parkhead numerous times in recent weeks, with his departure starting to feel like a given instead of a possibility.

Giakoumakis has only managed four starts in the Scottish Premiership this season, still scoring six times overall, with Ange Postecoglou largely preferring other more mobile options in attack.

Now, a significant update has emerged regarding the 28-year-old's future.

The Latest: Celtic accept offer

Taking to Twitter, Joseph said that an offer has been accepted for Giakoumakis' services, although he could still move elsewhere:

"Celtic have accepted an offer from Japanese side Urawa Red Diamonds for striker Giorgos Giakoumakis. @SkySportsNews understands the initial fee is £3m. However, Giakoumakis is still weighing up his options, amid strong interest from Atlanta United."

The Verdict: Time to say goodbye

It feels as though Giakoumakis has made his mind up over his future and it makes complete sense for all parties for him to enjoy a fresh challenge.

The striker has been an impressive servant for Celtic, scoring 26 goals in 57 appearances, while Postecoglou has hailed him for being 'super with our press'.

It remains to be seen if the Hoops will look to sign an immediate replacement for Giakoumakis this month but it could be wise, allowing the boss to continue rotating effectively.
