Celtic forward Odsonne Edouard is facing a battle to be available for tomorrow’s Old Firm derby after recently testing positive for Covid.
All associated with the club will be eager to know how the Frenchman is doing and will hope that he is fit to feature now that his isolation period has ended.
The latest update from manager Neil Lennon suggests that the illness is slightly taking its toll on his fitness.
WHAT NEIL LENNON SAID ABOUT ODSONNE EDOUARD
Speaking via the Daily Record, Lennon has given an honest evaluation of the striker, saying: “Edouard is back today. He will be assessed – we are going through that procedure at the minute, so we will know more later on this afternoon.
“He has been a bit tired and isolated but we will go through the tests and we will see how he is.”
ODSONNE EDOUARD AND HIS BATTLE TO BE FIT
Edouard has played 10 games in all competitions this season and scored six times, per Transfermarkt, so he will no doubt be a huge loss for Celtic if he misses out tomorrow.
Can Celtic beat Rangers without Christie and Edouard?
Lennon’s update on the £13.5m-valued player is not an encouraging one for the Hoops. If the 22-year-old is ‘tired and isolated’, then he likely won’t be match fit for the game, so therefore it is worth wondering whether he should feature even if available.
It is a big game and obviously the Hoops will want their star striker, who has scored 66 goals in 136 appearances, to be available. However, they can’t think solely about tomorrow – they are fighting for the Premiership title and have a huge game against AC Milan coming up in the Europa League.
Lennon might have to take a risk and have Edouard on the bench in order to save him for Milan, and the manager could turn to Edouard against the ‘Gers if needed.
It is not the news that Celtic fans would want to hear. However, they will hope that the Bhoys can still come away victorious against their rivals even if he is absent.
