Celtic centre-back Cameron Carter-Vickers has been named in the USA’s squad for the 2022 World Cup, as relayed by journalist Mark Hendry.
The Lowdown: World Cup nearing kick-off
This weekend, the Hoops play their final game before the World Cup gets underway in nine days’ time, with Ross County making the trip to Parkhead in the Premiership. After that, Celtic’s next match comes away to Aberdeen on December 17, in what is a unique domestic season across Europe.
A number of Hoops players will be able to earn a break during the World Cup, but one man in Ange Postecoglou’s squad who will be a key figure for his country at the tournament is Carters-Vickers.
The Latest: Carter-Vickers in USA squad
Taking to Twitter on Thursday, Hendry relayed the news that the 24-year-old has been named in the USA squad, which he believes is just reward for the player.
The Football Scotland deputy editor tweeted:
“Cameron Carter-Vickers is going to the World Cup with USA. Very well deserved as he’s been a rock for Celtic.”
The Verdict: Richly deserved
Carter-Vickers has been a brilliant player for Celtic since arriving from Tottenham, initially on loan and then joining permanently, being hailed as ‘immense‘ by former Hoops striker Chris Sutton.
This is just reward for his efforts, having won 3.6 aerial duels per game in the league this season (third-highest in the squad), along with enjoying a 91.7% pass completion rate (best of any player at Parkhead).

Carter-Vickers could possibly be a starter for the USA, and many Celtic fans – and Scotland supporters in general – will be hoping that he produces a big performance against England in the group stage, if selected for that game.
