Celtic suffer another defensive blow as Kristoffer Ajer faces time out

Celtic managed to book their place into the semi-final of the Scottish Cup with a hard-fought 1-0 win against St. Johnstone on Wednesday night.

However, the match was not without its concerns for Brendan Rodgers and his side, as he may have potentially lost two of his defenders for the foreseeable future.

Dedryck Boyata was shown a red card for dissent towards the referee in the final stages of the game, whilst Kristoffer Ajer was forced off with an injury he picked up.

“It looks like a hamstring for Kris,” Rodgers told the Scottish Sun following the win.

“We’ll just have to wait and see how long that is going to be and Dedryck will miss whatever it is to be. We move on.”

Celtic have had a number of concerns at centre-back already this season, with the likes of Jozo Simunovic, Filip Benkovic and Marvin Compper all having to have spent time on the sidelines as well.

The Verdict:

Rodgers will be hopeful that Ajer’s latest injury setback is not too serious and the Norwegian will be able to make a swift return to the side.

The defender’s absence will be a blow to the side, as Simunovic continues his recovery, whilst Boyata will also be facing time out of the side following the red card.

Jack Hendry is the only recognised centre-back the Bhoys currently have available, however, his performances have come in for criticism in recent outings and the backline has looked shaky at times.
