Celtic team news: Kristoffer Ajer a doubt for Rosenborg clash

Rodgers

Celtic will begin their Europa League campaign with a home match against Rosenborg on Thursday night.

Brendan Rodgers will be expecting his side to perform to a better standard after they have had a difficult start to the season.

The Bhoys were knocked out of the Champions League in the qualifying round and have also had their struggles in the Scottish Premiership recently as well.

And, according to a match preview by Sky Sports, the Hoops have a number of players unavailable for the visit of the Norwegian outfit.

Kristoff Ajer is a considered to be a big doubt for the game at Celtic Park on Thursday as he has been struck down with a virus and will be assessed prior to the match.

Jozo Simunovic remains unavailable for Celtic as he continues to recover from a knee injury whilst Nir Bitton is still on the sidelines with the same issue.

However, Rodgers has some positive news as Olivier Ntcham is available as his red card against St. Mirren only rules him out of domestic football.

The Verdict:

Rodgers will be looking for improvements from his side and will want to ensure they get off to a positive start against Rosenborg.

Celtic, who also have Red Bull Leipzig and Salzburg in their group, have already met the Norwegian side in European competition this season, having beaten them in the Champions League qualifiers.

The Hoops will be hopeful that Ajer will be fit for the game, otherwise, the Bhoys could have a real lack of options at the back to choose from.
