Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou wants to sign a centre-back on loan on deadline day, according to The Daily Record’s Michael Gannon.

The Lowdown: Frantic deadline day

The Hoops look set to be extremely busy in terms of incomings and outgoings in the final hours of the window, with Gannon labelling it as frantic.

He suggested that Odsonne Edouard and Ryan Christie could leave for Crystal Palace and Bournemouth respectively, whereas Georgios Giakoumakis and Filipe Jota look set to come in at Parkhead.

Giakoumakis looks set to cost the Hoops £2.1m, while Jota will join on loan, and it seems as if Postecoglou wants another temporary acquisition late in the window.

Gannon’s story late on Monday evening suggested that Postecoglou wanted a centre-back on loan on top of moves for Giakoumakis and Jota.

He didn’t specify as to who that could be, although Tottenham’s Cameron Carter-Vickers has been a name linked with a move to Parkhead all summer.

Celtic recently signed centre-back Liam Scales from Shamrock Rovers, but it appears as if Postecoglou wants Dominic McKay to explore another defensive signing.

The Verdict: Attacking reinforcements vital

Even though Postecoglou reportedly wants another centre-back, Celtic’s focus should be on getting moves for Giakoumakis and Jota over the line, especially with Edouard and Christie seemingly heading out the door.

Should those moves be finalised with time left before the deadline, then perhaps McKay could seriously look at another centre-back.

Celtic have five senior centre-backs on the books at this moment in time, so it wouldn’t be the end of the world if a late move for another one on loan doesn’t materialise.

In other news: McKay may land another Celtic deadline day move after Giakoumakis and Jota with free agent.
