Celtic have reached out to Wigan Athletic regarding the services of striker Kyle Joseph, according to Football Insider.
Nick Hammond chasing a bargain
This has led to some high praise from his teammate and striking partner Kal Naismith, who described him as a “top player” who possesses a “great appetite” (via Wigan Athletic’s official website).
But with his contract due to expire at the end of the season, Football Insider revealed that Celtic have taken it upon themselves to check Joseph’s state of play, after Wigan rejected a £500,000 bid from Barnsley and with arch-rivals Rangers also interested.
The report added that Wigan’s dire financial situation could force them to cash in this month, rather than lose him for nothing at the end of the 2020/21 campaign, which has seemingly caught the eye of Nick Hammond, Celtic’s Head of Football Operations.
Transfer Tavern Verdict
Joseph has an encouraging CV under his belt. Despite being London-born, he has been capped at Scotland U19 level already, scoring once.
If he makes the move to Celtic, training alongside the old heads like Scott Brown and Leigh Griffiths could help him blossom into the sort of player that the Hoops need, if Odsonne Edouard decides to leave the club.
Time will tell whether Celtic’s transfer chief Hammond can get the move done before next Monday’s deadline. But logic suggests that Wigan could do with the sale being made for Joseph.
