Premiership giants Celtic have reportedly reduced their asking price for French star striker Odsonne Edouard.
While it was initially reported some months ago that Celtic had slapped a £40million price tag on Edouard, it seems as if circumstances have forced them to reduce the Frenchman’s asking price by a huge percentage.
Should Celtic demand more than £25 million for Edouard?
Edouard’s price slashed by £15million
Football Insider have issued an update about Edouard’s current situation, stating that Celtic have accepted that they won’t get anywhere near the £40million price tag for the Frenchman. Because of that, their asking price for the 22-year-old forward has now come down to £25million, reducing by a whopping 37.5 per cent.
That is also because of the former Paris Saint-Germain man’s form this season and because he has now entered the last 18 months of his Celtic contract. The report also states that the possibility of Edouard’s Celtic exit is now growing and he could follow Kieran Tierney to the Premier League.
Because of the reduction in Celtic’s asking price, interest from down south is expected to increase as well – says the report. Edouard has scored 11 goals in all competitions this season, finding the back of the net seven times in the Premiership.
The Daily Record have previously reported that Celtic already have an agreement with Edouard’s representatives that they would sell the forward before his contract expires.
Earlier this season, Neil Lennon had been full of praise for Edouard and said: “He’s a special talent. He’s started the season brilliantly. He’s got so much to his game and what has pleased me over the last 12 to 15 months is the amount of goals he’s scoring as well. Important goals and different types of goals.”
Celtic should move on from Edouard
Considering that the gap between Celtic and Rangers is now up to as many as 21 points, it might be too late to salvage the season for the Bhoys and that may as well make keeping Edouard at Parkhead pointless.
He has scored seven league goals this season, but three of them have been penalties. He has scored only 0.34 non-penalty goals per 90 minutes in the league this season and that is a significant drop off from his tally of 0.90 last season (as per FBRef).
So perhaps, Celtic should actively look for buyers and sell Edouard at the best price, so that they can fund a rebuild right away and not hang around for his value to plummet.
