The international transfer window slammed shut earlier this week, although this does not stop clubs from scouting and making plans for the next opportunity to sign players. Celtic seem to be planning for the future and are set to battle for highly-rated youngster Sory Doumbouya.
The breakdown on Celtic’s interest in Sory Doumbouya
They face some competition, however, as Swiss sides Sion and Basel “continue to take information” on the 21-year-old.
Would Sory Doumbouya be a good signing for Celtic?
The centre-forward is a Guinea under-23 international, per the Daily Record, and could be a very interesting signing as he wouldn’t be a player to come straight into the Celtic team but rather one for the future.
It could raise questions as to whether Lennon is worried about losing star striker Odsonne Edouard. The 22-year-old has attracted a lot of interest from Premier League clubs like Arsenal and his future has been the subject of speculation recently.
Will Edouard stay at the club?
Doumbouya has yet to play at Ligue 1 level, and with three of Celtic’s four forwards 23 or under, the Guinean would not seem like an earth-shattering arrival at Parkhead, particularly as the Hoops’ front four have managed 13 goals in the team’s nine Premiership games so far this season.
Therefore, Lennon could be looking at the player because he may fear that Edouard could leave. If this is the case, then Doumbouya would have some big boots to fill at Parkhead.
