Celtic believe they can lure Sheffield United right-back George Baldock to Parkhead this summer, according to The Star.

The 28-year-old was first linked with a move to Celtic back in 2019 during Neil Lennon’s second stint in charge of the club.

The Hoops still seem to be keen on the Blades defender, with reports at the beginning of the month suggesting that the Glashow giants are willing to pay up to £8m for him.

An £8m move for Baldock would make him Celtic’s fourth-biggest signing of all time, with right-back an area where Ange Postecoglou wants to strengthen before the club’s Champions League qualifier later this month.

The Latest: Baldock update

According to The Star, the Hoops believe that the opportunity to compete for silverware, along with the chance to play in Europe could tempt Baldock to consider a move to Scotland.

Celtic are yet to make an offer for the 28-year-old, who is on £26,000 per week at Bramall Lane, with sources claiming that Postecoglou has watched footage of a number of shortlisted targets, including Baldock.

He has approved a possible move for the right-back, although the Hoops are unlikely to pay more than £8m for the Blades stalwart.

The Verdict: £8m too much?

Baldock is valued at £4.5m by Transfermarkt and has just 12 months remaining on his deal in Yorkshire, so £8m may be too much for Celtic to fork out.

He has never been valued higher than £5.85m in his career, and although he has plenty of experience in England’s top four divisions, the Hoops could be better off exploring options elsewhere.

However, it seems as if Postecoglou is keen on him, so a transfer could be one to keep a close eye upon over the coming weeks.
