Celtic are ‘in talks’ to sign Liverpool defender Ben Davies, according to journalist Ekrem Konur.
The Lowdown: Davies’ January mistake?
The Hoops were after the 25-year-old last season and appeared to have secured Davies’ services for the 2021/22 campaign.
That decision appears to have been a mistake, with Davies yet to make an appearance for Jurgen Klopp’s side.
It seems as if Celtic are still keen on Davies, who is represented by CAA Base, the same agency who look after superstars like Tottenham’s Heung min-Son and soon-to-be Manchester United defender Raphael Varane.
The Latest: Konur’s claim
According to Konur, Celtic, along with Bournemouth and Sheffield United, are in discussions with the Reds over a possible loan deal.
He posted the update on Twitter on Wednesday lunchtime, revealing Davies isn’t a part of Klopp’s plans.
“Sheffield United, Celtic and Bournemouth are in talks with Liverpool to sign Ben Davies on loan. Klopp doesn’t want Davies on the team.”
Would Davies be a good signing for Celtic?
Yes, get him in!
No, don't want him anymore!
The Verdict: Another Duffy?
Celtic could end up with another Shane Duffy scenario on their hands if they win the race to sign Davies on loan.
Liverpool may well want a loan fee, and you’d expect Celtic would have to contribute to his £60,000-a-week wage. He’s not played a competitive game since the end of January, so there’s no guarantee he would hit the ground running at Parkhead.
It could be a risky move by the Hoops, but it appears as if they are open to a possible temporary switch.
