It has been well-reported that Celtic are heavily interested in Alfie Doughty as they have made two bids already for the player. These were both rejected, but it seems like the club have still not given up on acquiring the player, even though they might not sign him during this current transfer window.
According to The Herald, the Scottish champions have not made a third bid to sign the player but instead, they will look to pick him up on on a pre-contract agreement in January as he only has one year remaining on his current deal at Charlton.
Doughty, who is only 20, is naturally a left-midfielder, but he can also play at left-back, per Transfermarkt, and to have this versatility at such a young age highlights his quality and such a versatile player is a great asset to have in any squad.
Last season, whilst Charlton were in the Championship, Doughty managed to help the Addicks at both ends of the pitch as he scored two goals and had four assists in 29 appearances and he also managed, on average, 1.3 successful dribbles, 1.2 tackles and 1.1 interceptions a game, per WhoScored.
All the signs show that Doughty would likely be a good acquisition and he could be an even better signing if the Hoops wait to get him in January as it would mean they could get him for free.
