Celtic will look to move on summer signing Vasilis Barkas over the coming months.

That’s according to The Scottish Sun, who weighed up the futures of the remaining 30 first team players at Parkhead after Scott Brown’s proposed move to Aberdeen was confirmed.

They claimed that Hoops will try to cut their losses on Barkas this summer.

Barkas’ disappointing first Celtic season

Barkas arrived from AEK Athens last summer in a deal worth £4.5m but has struggled in Glasgow. He has made 20 appearances in all competitions but has actually been the club’s worst-rated player in the Scottish Premiership with more than 10 league starts. [WhoScored]

His Transfermarkt valuation has dropped from £4.5m to £3.6m as a result, with Kristoffer Ajer another Celtic player valued at £3.6m who has been linked with a Parkhead exit recently.

Transfer Tavern take

We feel as if the new Celtic manager needs to have the final say on Barkas’ future at the club.

Former boss Neil Lennon had his doubts over the Greek shot-stopper shortly before resigning and had the 26-year-old in and out of the side during the current campaign.

Who knows, after his first year of settling into life in Glasgow, we could see a much-improved Barkas next season; but by the looks of it, the club may look to ship him out quite promptly.
