Reliable reporter Alan Nixon has addressed Celtic’s interest in Sheffield United right-back George Baldock on social media.

Baldock, who was linked with a move to Celtic Park back in 2019, appears to be back on the Hoops’ radar this summer.

Reports have suggested the 28-year-old is high on the club’s right-back shortlist and are willing to pay between £5-8m for his services ahead of the new season.

The Blades reportedly want more than £8m, and Nixon has had his say on Baldock possibly moving north.

The Latest: Nixon’s claim

Nixon was asked by a Celtic fan on Twitter on Friday about Baldock and the links to Parkhead.

This is what he had to say in reply…

“Sheff U want a good offer…”

It seems as if the Hoops are indeed in for Baldock, as you’d expect Nixon to pour cold water on the rumours if there wasn’t anything in it, but his post also seems to suggest the Blades may be holding out for an unreasonable fee.

The Verdict: Celtic must not overpay

Celtic are in desperate need of one, possibly two right-backs this summer.

Jeremie Frimpong and Hatem Elhamed both left the club for good earlier this year, leaving Anthony Ralston as the only right-back on the books at this moment in time.

The Hoops must not overpay for Baldock, though, as he has just 12 months remaining on his Bramall Lane deal.

He’s valued at £4.5m by Transfermarkt, so Celtic reportedly being willing to pay £8m and make him their fourth-biggest signing ever is probably too much.

Celtic will need some incomings over the coming weeks, so it should hopefully be a busy time at Parkhead ahead of Ange Postecoglou’s first competitive game as Hoops boss on July 20 against FC Midtjylland, but this could be a tricky deal if Sheffield United don't play ball.
