The Lowdown: Marmol profiled
Marmol is 20 years of age and is still awaiting his senior debut for the Catalan giants. The centre-back has been described as a manager’s dream by journalist David Bravo and has been a regular for Barcelona’s B team this season, playing every minute of action.
The Spain under-20 international will be hoping to catch the eye of new manager Xavi Hernandez, and it appears as if he is doing just that in the early stages of the 2010 World Cup winner‘s Camp Nou tenure, with reports claiming that the 41-year-old likes what he’s seen of the youngster.
However, it seems as if he could have been playing in green and white under Ange Postecoglou this season if Celtic had gotten their way.
The Latest: Celtic’s offer
The report claims that Celtic, along with Real Mallorca and Getafe, wanted to sign the defender and even had an offer ‘on the table’ to try and get him.
How many more signings do Celtic need this month?
The Verdict: One to keep an eye on?
Marmol has just 18 months remaining on his Barcelona contract, so if he fails to break into Xavi’s firs team, he could be a player that the Hoops could try to land further down the line.
As we know, Postecoglou bolstered his central defensive ranks with the signings of Carl Starfelt and Cameron Carter-Vickers, but with Christopher Jullien struggling to get back playing following a serious injury and the American only on loan for now, a swoop for Marmol could be a shrewd move.
It should be one to keep an eye on for Postecoglou and Celtic chiefs, as he could be a shrewd signing in six to 12 months’ time.
