Southampton have no interest in signing Celtic’s Ryan Christie, according to talkSPORT’s Alex Crook.

The Lowdown: Christie’s future

Christie is actually out of contract in the New Year, meaning he can sign a pre-contract agreement with any club outside of Scotland this summer.

He reportedly doesn’t want to do that, though, due to the risk of being sidelined by Ange Postecoglou.

The likes of Burnley and Sampdoria have been linked with a move for the attacking midfielder in recent days, as well as the Saints.

Reports have suggested Southampton were planning a move for the 26-year-old, but that doesn’t seem to be the case.

The Latest: Crook’s post

Crook, who covers Southampton at talkSPORT, took to Twitter on Tuesday afternoon to share an update on Christie.

He revealed the Saints have ‘no interest’ in Christie and squashed talks of Stuart Armstrong heading back to Parkhead.

“Told #SaintsFC have no interest in #Celtic midfielder Ryan Christie. Also no substance to rumours linking Stuart Armstrong the other way.”

The Verdict: What should Celtic do?

Dominic McKay is in a tricky situation when it comes to Christie’s future. Should his situation remain the same, he could leave on a free transfer in a matter of months.

What McKay may have to do is to give Christie an ultimatum relatively quickly – sign a new deal or sell up.

What Celtic don’t want to do is to be in the same scenario in December, as an international midfielder, who has been a regular under Postecoglou, could then walk out the door for nothing.
