Celtic: Two players could miss Partick Thistle clash through injury

Celtic look set to be without two players for their Scottish League Cup tie against Partick Thistle on Wednesday.

Right-back Moritz Bauer looks a major doubt to feature against the Jags. Meanwhile, striker Leigh Griffiths will be missing from the squad too.

Speaking in the pre-match press conference, Bhoys boss Neil Lennon said (via The Scottish Sun): “Moritz is a doubt. We’re hoping he’ll be fit for the weekend but tomorrow could be too soon for him. Leigh Griffiths could be okay for the weekend, too.”

Bauer, who joined on loan from Stoke City in the summer, made his first start for the Hoops in their 3-1 victory against Kilmarnock at the weekend. The Austrian impressed and even provided an assist, but was withdrawn on 79 minutes.

After the game, Lennon said that the 27-year-old had got a “bang and a twisted ankle“, and if he does miss the match then Hatem Abd Elhamed should deputise.

As for Griffiths, he has not featured since Celtic’s victory against Hearts in August and looks set to remain out of the team for the visit of Partick Thistle. He started the campaign with a few substitute appearances and even managed to bag a couple of goals against Motherwell and St Johnstone.

Lennon revealed last week that the 29-year-old missed their game against Rennes with a dead leg, and despite being confident he would feature against Kilmarnock he missed out on a place in the squad once again at the weekend.

The Scottish international is still trying to get back to full fitness after missing a large portion of last season due to off-field issues.

Whilst they do have the talented Odsonne Edouard and Vakoun Issouf Bayo, Celtic would love to get Griffiths back to full fitness as soon as possible. At his best he is one of the most clinical strikers in Scotland, having scored 107 goals in 197 Premiership appearances.
