Celtic appear to get away with huge game-changing decision

Ange Postecoglou celebrates for Celtic

Celtic appeared to get very lucky during their latest victory when Elie Youhan was sent off for a controversial second yellow card.

The Lowdown: Big decision goes Postecoglou’s way

After VAR stepped in to hand Hibernian a penalty kick and Celtic a huge mountain to climb if they were to pick up a massive three points at home, that didn’t faze them as they won 3-1.

The scoreline does look comfortable, but they left it very late, scoring twice in the final 10 minutes of the game to ensure they kept their ominous advantage at the top of the SPFL table.

However, it could have been a very different game had the referee not handed Youhan a second yellow card in the first half when the scores were 0-0 – especially as it looked like he was fouled himself.

The Latest: Celtic get a big slice of luck

After a tussle on the halfway line, Youhan was adjudged to have fouled Cameron Carter-Vickers, which was deemed enough to warrant a second yellow card. However, the footage shows it was perhaps the American that initiated the tussle.

Therefore, Celtic can certainly count themselves lucky for being on the receiving end of a controversial refereeing decision, because with 11 men, Hibernian may well have been able to hold on for at least a point.

The Verdict: Bhoys look set for SPFL glory

With just a handful of games left to play in the SPFL before the split occurs, Celtic are looking odds on favourites to regain the SPFL title and make it back-to-back domestic trophies for Ange Postecoglou.

Celtic have indeed been almost untouchable this season losing just once in the entire campaign which was against St Mirren very early on in the season and they’ve just gone from strength to strength since that defeat.

However, it’s hard to argue that they haven’t had some luck go their way when decisions such as this one are occurring in crucial moments of the games, although Postecoglou won’t mind too much.
